A Charitable Web Host? I thought that was a rough and tumble industry.

After an outage during its annual telethon threatened to prevent online donations, GoDaddy assisted the Arizona Humane Society by providing web hosting for its pet telethon.

GoDaddy.com Founder and CEO Bob Parsons, along with his dog Max, were at the Arizona Humane Society’s telethon to match online donations, when a troubling glitch occurred. The society’s web site, which was hosted by an unnamed firm, crashed, rendering it unable to keep up with the spike in traffic spurred by Mr. Parsons’ offer, even though the staff had prepared for the surge.

During the telethon, Mr. Parsons and GoDaddy.com moved quickly and created an alternative web site address for telethon donations. The move was televised to viewers and the telethon’s Internet aspect ran smoothly for the rest of the fundraising drive. With help from GoDaddy.com, members of the community donated more than $117,000 in online donations, almost seven times the amount pledged last year. Parsons, on behalf of his company, donated $50,000 to the respected animal-welfare organization.
